Had an amazing time doing this hike with my friends. It starts at Howth Train Station and then you will proceed to walk for a while near the cliffs. After walking for sometime you will see a gap in the bushes on the side of a cliff and something that resembles a staircase. If you proceed to go down those steps there will be a rope which you can use to descend down the cliff to a beach. It's a nice and pretty isolated area since it's a bay surrounded on both sides with cliffs. We spent about an hour just sitting there and enjoying the view and then continued walking. Eventually the trail will loop inland where you could choose to go to the Howth Summit or continue on walking through the golf-course and into the forest. The trail loops back at Howth Train Station and afterwards you can go grab some food and rest. The hike took us about 3-4 hours since we were walking at a normal pace trying to enjoy the scenery, and we also took some breaks along the way. In total we travelled close to 20km which wasn't too bad, also taking into account that we took a detour going down to the beach. 10/10 and would definitely recommend going on a warm day like we did.

The Bog of Frogs Loop at Howth is an amazing hike! Definitely recommend. It starts off from the Howth Dart Station, through the village, and along the Howth Cliff Walk and then continues as the Bog of Frog Loop. The first half is incredible—walking/running all along the Howth Cliffs with fantastic views of the Irish Sea. There are also many side paths down to hidden beaches or the lighthouse when you reach that point. Eventually, you'll turn inland to continue following the trail either climbing up to the Howth Summit or going around it into the golf course. You pass through the golf course, through some woodland paths and a neighborhood or two and then you're back in town. It drops you off right back near the train station where you can grab a bite and head back into Dublin. The trip from Dublin is about an hour by bus or train. Not bad at all. I went on many side adventures and I think the whole trip took me about 4 hours. It can probably take you 3 if you're not always following the little footpaths down to the beaches. The full trail is on AllTrails too if you're worried about getting lost. Enjoy!

Wonderful walk mostly along ocean. Amazing views, landscapes, cliffs.
Walking all along purple path we made app. 17 km (with just a little detour for drinks), which was a bit surprising as a map that we got at the beginning was showing just 10.
Anyways, it was worth it:)
Don't expect frogs though:b

The walk was beautiful and tough going just like I was looking for. Some areas were not well sign posted or had diversion due to work going on in various stages so at some points we were walking not sure if we were still on the walk or not. We ended up doing about 15km in the end due to going of track and turning around but it did not dampen the day. I would highly recommend but maybe study a map of the route beforehand to know where you are going in advance.

Bog of the frogs is the best trail run in Dublin. Starting at the Pier in Howth, heading South for some good hill training as you head up to and along the cliffs. There are wonderful views of Dublin Bay as you head towards the summit and past the light house and its beauty. Some stunning properties along the way as you navigate some tricky steps. Part of the trail crosses a beach which is great. Following the purple arrows marking the way, you turn inland across a couple of fields. Climbing upwards, across the road through lots of Gorse bushes you see spectacular views of Dublin city when you get to Howth golf course. Meandering through the golf course, past the 11th tee and into the bog of the frogs 🐸 🐸 woodland and eventually making your way back down to Howth Dart station and back along the harbour past the fishing boats and yachts. A must do trail run and the best in Dublin.

It's bit long trail to take, keep following the path and be careful for slippery ends. Avoid rainy weather for cliff walks.

It's the longest trail (12KM total) it's one of my favorite memories of my life so far to look back on. The trail is easy enough to follow and took us amount 3.5 hours all together. It's challenging but very enjoyable, new and bigger views around each bend and section of the trail. Everyone we ran into along the way was super friendly, but for much of it we were alone and in peace with us and the trail. Awesome. Cannot recommend enough.

I discovered this little gem whilist with a walking group last spring .I must confess I didn't know it existed and was surprised when we came upon it and it was suggested to have our picnic there. It was sunny and balmy and the views across the bay as we sat on the rocks were divine .Howth is so full of magical walks ,all at different levels .Grace O'Malley ,the pirate queen landed here and kidnapped the son of St Lawrence who had refused her entry to his castle .Howth is full of history and the many varied walks are full of flora and fauna.

A beautiful sunny day in Ireland asks for some outdoor activity. We took the DART to Howth (30-40 minutes from Pearse station). The longest hike is the Bog of Frogs. Follow the purple arrows (and get a free map at the tourist information). Great views all the way: cliffs, light house, a beach, golf course, Dublin Bay, and a bit of forest. We had a little picknick (you have to buy food and drinks before you leave), and lots of photo stops. It took us about 4.5 hrs. Bring sun glasses and sun screen on a sunny day. Hiking boots recommended. Great experience!
