This was on our way to summit point at Chandrashila.
An exciting trek. A lot to walk. So, need to start early in the morning. If one wants to witness the sunrise, the trek can be started even at 3am.
This tests your stamina and patience.
Nice scenery on the way. Many himalayan peaks will accompany you on the way to top.

I hiked Tungnath Mahadev solo on 23-April-2022 and here are my tips for fellow travelers -
DOs:
1. Start early. Certainly no later than 7am. The weather changes dramatically in the afternoon, especially at Chandrashila.
2. Take a trekking pole or bamboo stick. Sticks are available near the starting gate and cost 10,20 rupees only. Poles/sticks will help you through, particularly if you are not a seasoned trekker.
3. Take a 1 ltr water bottle with you, and some energy bars or chocolate.
4. Take rest every 20-25 mins in the shade.
5. Book hotel near the starting gate. Stay the night before so you can start early the next day.
DON'Ts:
1. Underestimate the trek. Distance is 3.5km to Tungnath and further 1km to Chandrashila. Total distance will be around 10km. If you are a novice or beginner, it will test your stamina.
2. Ride a mule or donkey. Better to walk.
3. Feed any animals during the trek. There are lot of monkeys around who will jump at you when they see you distributing food.
4. Litter the place with your food waste. Keep all waste with you and dispose after you complete the trek.

The trek is extremely difficult for beginners n those not used to such steep slopes! It’s a most exotic scenic route and the peaks r majestic n flowers r magical.. all that is true but pls know it’s a v v steep track! There is barely any flattish path.. it’s not there! Don’t go without adequate preparation for body strength n stamina.. also in march end it was so cold that one could loose their mind due to cold! Very limited food options r available only when the temple is open from may mid to October! Around the start point of trek lodging options r very very basic.. tacky rooms, unwashed stinking blankets! Ice cold water! We needed 6 layers of blankets quilts to sleep! Still it wasn’t feeling enough in march end 2022

I trekked Tungnath Mahadev solo on october 30, 2021. That was the day when the kapaat of the temple were getting closed and baba Tungnath were being moved to his winter abode, Mukkumath. I started my trek sharp at 6 AM and it took me around 2 hours to reach the temple. I took a few short breaks in between to click some pictures but otherwise trekked continuously.
The trek itself is very beautiful and there are many vista points on the way. When you are climbing you can see the Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, etc mountain ranges beside you. I would recommend to start climbing as early as you can. A lot of people start at 3-3:30 AM to view the sunrise from Chandrashila. Overall, the trek is very easy and there is stone paved path all the way to the temple. You also have an option to take a pony but I would recommend not to take it unless you absolutely need it. It's much more fun to trek on your feet and it feels much more rewarding. You may take your time to reach the top.
The temple area is very clean and in the morning hours there is absolutely no rush even on the day the doli had to be prepared. I had all the time to be inside the temple and offer my prayers. After spending half an hour there I went on to trek Chandrashila.
I came back down at around 11 AM and by that time the preparations for doli were completed. I saw the ceremonies which stretched for 1 hour and it was a very good experience. I would highly recommend to watch the doli preparations and ceremonies if possible.
I started walking down with doli at around 12 PM but decided to take some rest in between on a rock. Just lied there and listened to music. It was a very pleasant experience.

Bholay Baba called us, an instant plan was made with a friend & off we were on our bikes. We started at 1am from Gurugram on 11th March 2021 for Tungnath Ji. Reached Chopta (480 kms from Gurugram) which was our base camp. Stayed at Chopta Swiss Camps. Next day went for Tungnath Ji darshan which is the world's highest Shiva temple (12500 ft). It's a 4 kms trek which for me was exhausting but was able to climb all the way up in 3 hrs. Feeling and ambience once I reached temple was absolute divine and blissful. Rest the pics will speak for themselves. Downhill took me only an hour. Would definitely go there again if Shiv Ji call me again. Om Namah Shivay.

Hi
I did the trek on 30th October last year. That's the day the kapaat of temple were getting closed and baba tunganath's doli was being moved to mukkumath. October is a very pleasant time to do the trek. There was no snow on the paved path of the trek but as you move closer to the temple you can see the snow on the sides. Also, there would be decent amount of snow from Tunganath to Chandrashila trek, although, again, not on the main path.
I started the trek solo at exactly 6 AM and was at the temple at 8 AM. I did the trek at a very leisurely pace. At that time there were not many people at the temple so you can take your time with the darshan.
The doli procession started at around 12 PM. By that time I had gone to Chandrashila and came back.
Sorry, I am not sure about the Himalayan birds.
Tungnath chopta bus timing

Best way to reach Chopta is to take a bus to Rudraprayag. You will get plenty of buses from Haridwar and Rishikesh to Rudraprayag with a frequency of half/1 hour. From Rudraprayag you can take a shared taxi till Ukhimath. It would take around 1 hour and would cost around 100-150 Rupees. From Ukhimath you can take another shared taxi till Chopta. The frequency of these shared taxi would be a less because there are not many villages between Ukhimath and Chopta so the taxi takes time to be fully occupied.
Hey do you have their phone number or any contact from where I can prebook?

I plan to visit in March 2021. I have a few questions I needed help with:
1. Can this trek be done in March? How is the weather? Does it have snow on the path?
2. How far is the trek from Chopta to the temple?
3. What is the difficulty level? Can total beginners do this trek?
4. Can it be done in sport shoes or trekking shoes? Do we need special gear for snow?
5. What is the best time to start the trek?
6. Is the decent tough?
7. Do we need a guide or can this be done by our group without professional help?

Hi dear, on the month of March you can do yours trek by in the group there is no need to the guider . It’s very easy but before you will come to here you must please do at least 2 month morning walk and running because trek is small only 3 to 4 km but the way is high. Both shoes are absolutely fine but grip of shoes should be tight.
FYI Tungnath to Chandrashila trek is only 1.5 km you must please visit there also too. It’s very scary and risky trek because it’s very slippery there
