I am not from the area, but we have a summer cottage near the shelter where I've visited a few times. They have a very kind and caring staff, and do so much to help the animals in their care find good and loving homes. I wish more people knew about them, their mission and would help support their cause!!!

My boss, Dr. Sue Tilton Griffin, had so much fun looking at her family's history & sharing it with us. Tilton, NH is a beautiful quaint city with lots to offer.

Its a cool arch and very large and can be seen from quite a distance, but after you've hiked up the hill to check it out you're done. If it's a nice day its a great place to visit for a picnic or kite flying as it is in a park but I'm not sure what else there is to say about it.

Interesting historical artifact of the area. It's kind of a guy's monument to himself. It seems out of place on top of the hill overlooking town. And you really can't see it or see much from the hill given the growth of the trees. I visited while the leaves were still off and still wasn't impressed with it or the view.
If you have to choose between this and other sites on your visit, go to the other place. You won't miss much.

This is a favorite place for me, as i grew up in the area near here, walking distance away. My wife and mother in law didn't realize that you could drive up to the Arch.

I had my wedding ceremony Here, I was able to rent the area for a low refundable deposit. Made for great pictures, and a unique memorial location.

After ever so many trips through Tilton to go to the Cumberland Farms for gas or iced coffee, you can't help but see the Tilton Arch. So this past Sunday I decided to go see what it is all about and why is it located in Tilton on a hill overlooking the town and the bed in the river running through town. The first thing is how do you get there, somehow got on a road that I thought was a dead end but it came around a bend and there is was high on the hill. All the fall foliage was gone and this would be a great place for photos where there are still leaves on the trees. There was a box for brochures explaining the Arch but it was empty--so what the arch is all about is still a mystery--however, I will look it up online. I will be back here with the grand kids in the Spring and Fall or maybe even for a summer picnic. I can just see them rolling down the long slope of the hill. I think this is a great place for any family to picnic with a fun setting looking for rolls on the long sloping lawn afterwards.

If you enjoy a small walk and enjoy seeing a local icon monument, this is the one to see. Great view from the top of the hill

The Tilton arch is a hidden gem! It's the perfect spot for a picnic, or sitting on the hill and looking out at the view. The first time we went was in early fall, when the leaves were first starting to turn, but it is also beautiful in the spring. Bring a Frisbee or ball to play catch, and grab a picnic lunch at the nearby deli - you won't regret it! It can be a little hard to find for the first time, even with GPS , but don't give up!

The Memorial Arch is 50 ft high and is massive, constructed of NH gray granite. Beneath the Arch is a pink granite sarcophagus surmounted by a starving lion. Charles Tilton ordered both to be constructed for , well, himself. It is directly opposite the small Winnepesaukee River from his hilltop mansard mansion now part of Tilton School.
For reasons unknown, when he died he was buried in an obscure graveyard and not in his magnificent tomb. Charles Tilton left 6 now 3 statues and an island in the middle of the river for the rest of us to enjoy. The views from the park on the top of the hill are magnificent. It is definitely a place for a picnic on a summer day. My thanks to the wealthy, eccentric Charles Tilton. We remember you but perhaps not for the reasons you hoped.
