Visiting Bangor, you cannot miss the Marina which runs from the bottom of Main Street right round to Pickie Fun Park.

I'm finding it difficult to appreciate what I found in what I assume is the sunken garden. There is no signage for this feature as you walk along the North Pier, at least I didn't see any, so where is it actually?
I cound a garden with a dry pond and weed infested borders with a few shrubs not in flower. There were a few flower filled tubs, which was good, but little else.
If the council is going to promote this part of the town they surely must invest a little bit more money in the upkeep.

There's not much to go out of your way to see in the small garden but to sit for a while, then take a walk around the pier is a pleasant way to spend an hour on a sunny day. Like so many places, it depends who else is there, quietly watching the world go by or moving on to let the kids enjoy themselves.

This is a lovely place - and on a sunny day, with a wee picnic and a flask, would be a great place to sit for a while. However, on a dull April afternoon, it was too cold to linger.
Perhaps if it was a little more "sunken" the wind wouldn't cut you in two!

Such beautiful scenery, if only guaranteed the weather. When the sun is shining you could almost feel your in the continent.

I didn't realise Bangor had sunken gardens so I was excited at the prospect of visiting them. When I got there I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed at the concreted area that is known as the gardens. I thought at first it was a joke like Father Ted's “Freak Pointing” or “Spinning Cat” as there was no grass or flowers in sight – just concrete & benches.
After my initial disappointment I began to appreciate the area that begins at the McKee Clock at the bottom of High Street. There are a couple of steps to take you down to the concreted area that is the gardens (apparently beautiful many years ago) & there is a pretty white gazebo (which I have been told used to be a fountain). There is an actual fountain just passed the gazebo & benches both on lower & upper levels. I found it to be a peaceful area considering its location & it does seem slightly enclosed with some trees separating it from the marina area.
The north pier is just a few minutes walk away from the gardens & is great for taking a short stroll. The gardens also lead onto Bangor Promenade & then to the Marina; Pickie Fun Park & the Marine Coastal Path. The complete area makes for a nice day out with lots of cafés around if you need fed or watered.

I wouldn't call the garden "sunken", but it is a bit below street level. There are a few seats to relax on, and watch Bangor going by. On my visit, loads of people, mainly families, were strolling along from the garden down the pier. It was a beautiful day, and the scenery was magnificent. The pier is quiet long, so it's a good work-out. I wouldn't fancy it when the weather is bad though!

The sunken gardens as it used to be called was beautiful, but now its only seats positioned on concrete not really worth while. Not really worth a look at. The north Pier or what's left of it when it had the wooden end on it, its ok to take a stroll down or try your hand at a we bit of fishing of the decking but your better fishing of the back of the pier you will catch more.

What a super spot to collapse into after visiting the great shopping on the Main Street. It can be hard to leave here as it is so restful and offering a nice view of the Main and High Streets. Near to parking a good stop off point if walking the whole promenade. The pier is a good vantage spot.
