So sad to see the decline of this shopping centre over the last few years. The building it's self is lovely, just the decline of the choice of shops currently in it. Not the best shopping centre anymore. Hopefully this will change in the next few years for the sake of Wigan. Basic shops to for those basic needs.

It is a shame about the galleries as in my opinion it is a much nicer looking centre to the grand arcade. More airy and pleasing on the eye but half empty. Answers on a a postcard to Wigan council.

There are still a few good shops downstairs but upstairs is pretty much empty now. Worse since Argos has gone

The Galleries Shopping centre has very little to offer shoppers nowadays. It is practically empty. Most of the shops have moved to the grand arcade making the Galleries a ghost town. Not sure what the future holds for this place.

It is a shame what has happened to the Galleries over the years, especially with shops like 'Ethnic Emporium' and 'Ryman's Stationary' closing and moving, and the council not advertising this or Wigan market at all... This said, there are still little treasures to had. The little café in the centre on the first floor is very nice, 'The Works' sell many intriguing and useful items and 'Body Shop' sell a fantastic range of body products. There are also wonderful shops such as 'Verani's' (or something like this) and the jewellery shop next door to that which I bought a nice ring from years ago. There are also other shops which are quite nice, such as a traditional sweet shop which sells many childhood treats!

This shopping centre has suffered badly since the Grand Arcade opened. Most of the shops that were here have either relocated to the Grand Arcade of have closed all together. Time for the town planners to have another look at how to revitalise a once busy shopping centre.

The overall content of shops are very limited, but would venture to suggest, A Flagship Shopping Centre in its Time. Having read previous reviews for this place, thought I would check it out for myself. Pleasently surprised. Why? A little cafe called "Country Larder Cafe". This cafe really is a Gem in the Rough. Clean, resaonably priced Cafe Type Food, In my case Baked Potato, Cheese and Beans. The staff serving are Young, Energetic and polite. Is is in the middle of the shopping centre off the market square area. Well used by young families, and patrons of all ages. Whilst The shopping centre has suffered decline, it is surprisingly well kept and clean, the shoppng centre that is. As I write this and have done some research into the centre. Have found It has recently been bought out by the local enterprise council, with Grand plans for re-furbishment. However for me the cafe is the treat. Recommend Checking it out. As maybe planned re-furbishment may ruin this little cafe business. Lets Hope not..

now don't get me wrong there is some good shops to see in here but they are dwindling and few and far between. I think now as ive seen it yesterday there was more shops empty than open and I know of a entire section of the mall that has been closed off for it was a ghost mall. it was completely empty and gave me the chills when I accidently walked through a couple of years back. many of the empty shops including the café looked like they had been empty for some time and as in my title was a real time warp to the 90s as was the general décor of the mall a mix of dated nostalgia for me. its such a shame its been left to get to this state with many a good shop being driven out or closed. its certainly not the place to go in Wigan as it used to be, for now I wouldn't go out of my way to visit and wouldn't recommend for its all rather sad and disappointing. Yet there's rumours on the horizon that the place is being regenerated! so perhaps not all is lost and business may return to what is slowly becoming a complete ghost mall.

I believe that this arcade along with the shops and market square at the rear were built in 1987 ish according to dates on the buildings, it amazes me that large towns like Wigan allow huge new developments when existing shop areas are already struggling, the idea that you just build a new shopping area and it will attract shoppers is ok in principle but will they return? obviously not to Wigan!. With Liverpool a short drive away I think the investment was badly thought out. The main shopping mall and the historical high street appear to be busy, there are a lot of coffee bars and pubs so I guess it is a good indication that business is ok but clearly the new arcade is a huge financial failure, better to take a stroll to the old arcade at least all the outlets are occupied and have some useful shops. Just hope that Warrington has not made a similar mistake with its new town centre market & retail development, time will tell!. Not worth a visit unless Wigan Council offer some incredible financial benefits to encourage new business but until then give it a miss.
