I booked Ruka ski school through Crystal ski and couldn’t reccomend them highly enough. I had 5 days of 1 hour 45 min group lessons and was very impressed. The group sizes were small and separated by level of experience. I was lucky enough to have Ella as my instructor and she was fantastic; quality tuition, tailored to suit, provided structure to the day and was great fun. Can’t wait to return!

Just back from a week in Ruka. Had a five day group ski school booked through Crystal Holidays. Ashley the instructor was really good he managed to get a group of five novices from the nursery slopes to a red run in five lessons.

We used Ruka Ski School which was booked through our Crystal Ski holiday.
I was moved groups on day 2 as my group were more advanced with their skiing than I was.
I would like to thank my instructor Tom who was amazing and very understanding. His teaching methods helped me with my confidence and got me skiing on my own.
Thanks again, Ruka is a good place to learn to ski.

My wife and two kids had 3 x 1.5 hour private sessions with an instructor over the first two days of our recent ski holiday. From being absolute beginners they were able to negotiate blue runs at the end of the second day. Really good level of instruction from the staff here so would recommend.
Quick tip - worth booking before you travel as the queues to organise are quite lengthy upon arrival. Meet point is in Ruka Valley so if you are staying in Ruka Village you will need to get Gondola/bus across for your lesson.

Used Ruka ski school through Crystal ski and was very impressed with the quality of tuition. You only get one hour 45 a day for 5 days. Wish it could have been more. We had pm lessons starting at 2pm so it was getting dark but had very small groups. Started with 6 but after 3 days was down to 3 as some people only booked 3 days (fools). My teenaged kids had Ashley who they really liked. He pushed them out of their comfort zone and they achieved great things. My 6 year old had Jannie and was in a group of 4. She had never skied before and was confidently doing blues from top of the gondola on day 3! I don’t know how they did that. I had Matthew with a group of 6 then 3. We had all only skied once before or a long time before so we’re quite green and nervous. He really taught us well in a calm and understated manner. Pushing us but not too far. Lots of miles to grow our confidence. From very nervous snowploughers we were parallel skiing blues confidently by day 4. Who knows what we will be up to by the end of day 5. It really made the holiday for me. Gave the day focus and something to practice before the next day. Don’t ski without them.

We booked a 1hr 50 min lesson for a family of four. The young instructors was amazing balancing kids with adults. He made sure we had mastered what we needed before moving us on. After nearly two hours we were all skiing for you can't ask for more than that.

Excellent and safe skischool. Our 9 years old daughter participited to the Verneri starter skischool 2 days,with no previous experience of skiing. After the lessons she was able to ski down most of the slopes with no difficulty or fear. I was amazed.
My older daughters 12 and 14 yeas had also pause with downhiill skiing and they took two private lessons with huge benefit. After the lessons they were able to ski down the most challancing slopes as well. I truely recommend the Ruka skischool. The lessons are awailable also in English and many more languages.

I sent my children 10 12 and 16 to this ski school having never taken them skiing before and by the end of the second day of the holiday they could all ski along quite happily. They had a great time with their friendly instructors and I would happily send them again..

Caters for all levels. Ski school is reached via the red gondola over in Ruka valley which is only a couple of minutes ride over the slopes. Instructors are all kitted out in red so are easily visible and are all willing to assist. Lots of languages covered as the guides are from all corners of the globe. We were taught by an Aussie called Dave Gale. What a great instructor. Clear, articulate, informative but also funny and light hearted when apptopriate. Very encouraging to us all and stepped us all on massively across the week. He was a great representative for the school.
My son also had lessons in a more advanced group and again the support and tuition received was good. Thank you very much.

Fantastic support provided by Jussi as instructor for our son who has a disability / he is definitely the instructor to ask for if you are visiting Ruka with anyone with a disability. As a complete novice to skiing I was very fortunate to have Anna - she was amazing and I came on much more than I thought possible in 2 days of lessons with her. Lovely ski resort - will definitely return next year.

Can you book into the 3 day course then extend to 5 days at the time if wanted? We're going as complete beginners but also doing a lot of other activities so not sure if the 5 days would be too much?

Of course you may extend it, with additional lessons.
Our English Group courses are ½-day courses, so you will any way have a nice to time take part to excursion at the same day, and get relaxed too.. And of course we hope that you'll enjoy this new hobbie on snow so much, that you'd like to book additional lessons too to become every day more condfident skier. Welcome to Ruka and Ski School!

hi, we are group of 6 adults and children of mixed abilities and are planning on booking into this ski school, did your groups lessons all start at the same time? I don't want to book if all of our lessons are at various times of the day as we had other activities planned.

Hi, we were looking at coming to Ruka in December but with temperatures around -20 and lower how does ski school cope with children getting too cold and miserable when they are first time learners? We have 3 aged 7, 8 and 10. Currently we have decided not to go but if there is positive answers we may reconsider

My son is 10 and has been skiing in Finland for several years. The cold is different to the UK as it is a dry cold rather than damp. Make sure you all have thermals and layers as well as goggles and a snood / face mask and you should be fine. A pair of under gloves as well also helps the hands keep warm. We went on a husky ride last week and it was -32C but a it feels a lot colder now I am back in the UK!! The ski school are good at looking after the children and if you are beginners, the slope is near a cafe so you can stop and warm up. Even on the slopes, the instructor will stop for a hot chocolate break if the children want to so they do not get too cold. Hope this helps and that you enjoy your holiday as we did.
