We had sampled some of the Pinot Noir from this winery at dinner the night before, so decided we would stop and pick some up on our way out of the County. We love to support local industry when travelling, and usually have some of our best experiences at smaller wineries where the owners are hands on. We arrived as the tasting room was opening, as did another couple. Our hostess was less than hospitable, so it was a very awkward experience. She was not interested in sharing any information about the wines themselves, but more interested in letting us know what a LONG season it had been, and all about the troubles the winery had experienced with finding help, and working around Covid restrictions. We did purchase some of the Pinot Noir ( both Otto and Top Dog) as well as 2 bottles of the Bella Chardonnay as recommended by the other couple. We understand it has been a challenging time, it's the end of a season and you are feeling burned out, however, maybe instead of opening up to the public who are there to support you, sticking to online orders would have been a better option. We would not go back.

Visited the winery September 21, 2021.
We have visited over many years and have made significant purchases.
There is no memory of this and indeed, when I requested a tasting of a Pinot, I instead got a lecture about people wanting free tastings. Awkward. I’m happy to pay but will never again return to this unhappy setting or put my guests in the somewhat toxic environment. Too bad - they used to make my favourite Pinot - I’m moving on.

James is very down to earth and I cannot say enough about his work ethic and the silky texture of his older Pinot Noirs! Love them ❤️🍷Thank you James - our Sunday night oven baked pork chops taste better with your Pinot! Bless you! 🙏

Victoria and James were exceptional hosts! Down to earth and very proud of their wine production! The wine tasting room is absolutely adorable with all the unique long dog décorations everywhere! Picnic tables nice and close to vineyards to get the true experience! Top of our list for wine tasting experiences!

Great wines (must try: top dog pinot noir and bella chardonnay) and the staff (3 owners) are extremely nice and welcoming.

Nothing special with this stop on our route. The wines were OK. did not buy. Prices where ok on the wines and the tastings. Server was pleasant but not overly eager.

Visited Long Dog the last weekend in Sept 2020. We had researched this winery, loved the story and was very curious to taste the wines. When we walked in the tasting room and were there only ones in there. I recognized the owner / wife (from their website) behind the counter and was enthusiastic to get first hand knowledge for the tasting. That enthusiasm was quickly curbed and in fact killed within two minutes from the lack of welcome, no description of wine options, pointed answers to questions about the winery and overall demeanor. We almost left right then and there. We did a few tastings to allow us to judge the wines on their own merit; but the damage was already done. There needs to be an understanding that the tasting room is more than just tastings - its about the experience and if you can't add value to your clients, you have no business at the front of house.
I was told from a local nearby resident that the husband and other business partner provide a completely different and positive experience when working the tasting room. Maybe this review would have been very different had they been there.

Rude winemaker and service. Highly suggest you avoid as there are many other winemakers in the a County who are way more pleasant and the wine is better elsewhere.

If you're looking for a small, boutique terroir driven winery, this is the place to go. Yes, it's a bit off the beaten path, but pair it up with a trip to Lighthall and it'll be worth the detour.
I'll be honest, when I first heard of this winery, I initially thought it was a marketing gimick, but am so glad I gave them a shot. These are excellent wines.

Long Dog only does Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (and dabble in spritzy gamay, although I've not tried it myself but people who have, have enjoyed it) and they only use local county fruit.
The tasting room is small and intimate, but decorated almost as a shrine to dachshunds (wiener dogs/sausage dogs) with memorabilia decorating it throughout.
As for the wines, these are serious wines that will only get better with time, however they are drinkable now. While the Chardonnays are good, personally, I think the Pinots are the star of the show, with the Free Run Otto, being the "Top Dog.
It's hard to not walk out with a case or 2. The Pinots are done in an old world Burgundian style.

Others have mentioned that the owners are rude/uninterested, but I've never experienced such a thing when visiting and have been on multiple occasions. Maybe an off day? Afterall, we all have our off days and are only human.

In any case, while labels may look "cute", i'd highly recommend a visit here to any serious wine drinker. What's inside the bottle is what matters and what's inside is great! I will absolutely be returning.
