This museum is a gem. The thought of it having to move from its current location is unthinkable.

The former factory is a perfect place to create the atmosphere of a tannery, saddlery and all the other trades associated with leather.

The staff are so knowledgeable and bring the leather making industry alive.

Walsall Council should value its heritage in this appropriate building. I would pay to visit again

Lovely afternoon spent at Walsall Leather Museum today. A top-class museum with a truly authentic atmosphere housed in a restored 19th century leather works. Houses a vast collection of artifacts telling the story of Walsall's world famous leather industry right up to the present day. Excellent displays and use of audio visual presentations.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. But sadly the museum in its present from is under threat of closure by the local council. Please seek out and sign the online petition.

We had a fantastic time at the Leather Museum. We were there for a good couple of hours, and were lucky enough to have a guided tour which I would highly recommend. The man who showed us round was very knowledgable, friendly and passionate about leather crafts.
Having grown up in Walsall, it’s so interesting to learn about the town’s heritage. The museum has some brilliant exhibits, videos and audio files which tell the stories of the men, women and children who were involved in the leather trade throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
There are also lots of interactives - it’s great that you’re able to pick up and touch so many things in the museum. Our guide also taught us how to stitch leather, which was really fun.
The museum is free to visit but we made a donation. It’s such a gem for Walsall, and we’re hopeful it won’t close - there’s currently a petition online to prevent this, which I hope anybody reading this review will sign!

This museum is absolutely fantastic! Firstly, it's free. Secondly, the hands-on experience is enjoyable and creative. The exhibits are highly informative and touchable. All the guides are so helpful and answer all questions you might have re. leather production. Lastly, the coffee/tea/hot chocolate offerings are first class and really economical. Visit this museum - to take a break with a cup of coffee, or to admire the authentic Victorian building.

After 35 years, I revisited the Leather Museum with my mother, who had taken me to the museum when I was a child. On this trip, I had the opportunity to take my 10 year old son.

Being born and brought up in Walsall, I wanted my son to know the history of the town. The visit was educational and fun too!

The building itself is beautiful and transports you back to the historical days of leather- making.

We were warmly welcomed at the entrance doors. This kind gentleman who had worked at the museum for 30 years met us with the same enthusiasm you would expect of someone on their first day at work.

Alongside the videos, we had live demonstrations of bridle-making from Paul, which was very engaging. He then took us through to Rose, who taught my son, to emboss/make a leather keyring with a design of his choice. Each keyring was 60p and a lovely gift for cousins.

Paul then took us downstairs and make sure we hadn’t missed anything, giving us a personal guided tour at the same time.

We ended with a cuppa at the cafe and some gifts from the gift shop.

The most enjoyable 2 hours spent and perfect to teach and entertain the kids especially when the weather isn’t great for outdoor activities.

Visited with my wife. Paul and Rose went out of their way to give us a very interesting and informative tour. Their personal skills and experience helped considerably in explaining the various stages and processes. I would strongly recommend, and further visits are a must to take everything in.

My Aunt and I had the most wonderful couple of hours at Walsall’s Leather Museum, we even found a Great Aunt of mine amongst the historic photographs. The staff were all so helpful and I would like to thank Paul in particular who took the time to draw on his experience of working here in the industry, to patiently explain all his in depth knowledge and demonstrate his learned skills with such contagious enthusiasm.
The museum is a wonderful reminder of how Walsall was once a world leading leather working town.

We took a group of 37 people to the museum for a wonderful visit. The museum is beautifully presented, with a combination of informative displays and evocative workshops. The volunteers gave a fascinating talk with unusual examples of leather and we all got to make a key ring. Good cake and tea rounded it off, including for our vegan and gluten free guests. Would recommend hugely.
