Really great place for Irish music
abr de 2016 • A sós
Look carefully or you could walk passed this record store and that would be a mistake. Its fully of wonderful Irish music that you may not find elsewhere and a really helpful set of people working behind the counter.

I was lucky enough to pop in when they were running a gig in the shop which was a total bonus. Apparently they will be doing this on a regular basis so keep an eye out on their facebook for details. There was also tea and cake for the gig :) I will definitely be going back!

Fantastic Independant Record Shop in the heart of Dublin city. Very friendly and helpful staff. A wide range of hidden gems for lovers of all genres. A great place to get your music stocked if you're in a band too!

A warm welcoming DIY record shop
out de 2015 • A sós
When I first discovered Little Gem the shop was located in a basement area on Cavendish Row, just beyond the Northern tip of O' Connell Street. I saw the sign (clearly good old DIY in itself), descended the stairs, and within a single minute had received a warm hello, and a hot cup of coffee - not exactly the norm in most record shops. Before I knew it I was on first name terms with Neal, one of the LG members on the roster there that day, and engrossed in a highly optimistic and passionate conversation about new DIY possibilities in music and the importance of independence. I later met Paddy and Andy and discovered that the vibrancy, the positive drive, and the friendliness were common right across the staff.

Within minutes of finding this shop I had encountered a zeal, dedication, passion and conviviality that has become rare in record store environments often given over to surly cooler-than-thou indifference and detachment. This was the first thing that impressed me greatly.

The second was the mission the shop had given itself to stock truly underground domestic and international music, ranging from eclectic, esoteric CDRs, MP3 players and cassettes to more classically produced vinyl and CDs.

Little Gem's commitment to representing the more experimental and DIY fringes of new Irish music is vital and precious. In a country where music output is incessantly challenged and molded by the catch-all Oirish woolly jumper folkist strategies of the government's tourist board you really need guys like these. Here you are likely to find Irish sounds that cut edges as weirdly as any subterranean Berliners or psychedelic Texans. Want to hear trippy drone music made by a Dublin City bus driver?? They've got it! And they've got similar Euro and American fare.

Look, truly free and independent music is struggling to keep itself going, no doubt, but shops like Little Gem (and there aren't many in Ireland) play an essential role in hooking up audiences with freer cross-generic musical types. If you want a genuinely curious, positive, outgoing, friendly and rewarding record shopping experience beyond the usual consumerist parameters hit Little Gem. They've since moved and can now be found on the ground floor of The Grand Social on Liffey St. It's a small operation, but it's got it's riches - that's probably where they got the name I suppose.

Great independent record store.

Little Gem is one of the few remaining independent record stores in Dublin. Friendly staff, exclusive releases and a broad ranging stock made up exclusively of independent music - almost all of it Irish.
