This was a fantastic place to explore just next to the roadside. There were so many graves of interest and the setting was so peaceful. The grass was a bit overgrown but this just added to the sense of history.

As soon as we saw it, we stopped the car and went for a look. It is so pretty there, and poignant. A lovely, reflective place to be a while.

Cill Chriosd is a few miles out of Broadford on the Elgol road. There are a few parking places opposite where there are also some information boards about the quarrying activities that used to take place in the area.
The chapel itself is a ruin but the graveyard is well-worth exploring. It has a mixture of burials and memorials to those buried elsewhere. It is looked after by the war graves commission as there are a number of servicemen and merchant seamen buried there along with memorials to some people who were killed in the Boer Wars and the two World Wars. Some of the inscriptions are quite poignant such as the soldier killed in France just a few days before the end of the first world war (if only he had kept his head down a bit longer) and the unknown merchant seaman who was washed up on the local shores during the second world war.
In addition, there are graves of local people grouped in families making it easier for those tracing their family history, especially as the women have their maiden names noted and there are often a list of children and sometimes parents on the memorials.

We just never tired of finding old church ruins which reminded us that Christianity was alive and well in Scotland many centuries ago! Photography was easy and required only traipsing through the churchyard. The Red Hills behind the church made for some nice pictures. Well worth the stop which was right along the road out to Elgol.

I visited Cill Chriosd with some friends on many instances in July 2017. We were producing geological maps of the area south of the church and so it was a perfect place to get shelter in a storm and to eat lunch. Really nice, recommend a quick stop to have a look.

Driving by on on our way back to Portree(judging from the camera roll I believe from Elgol), we passed it, stopped and backed up to park off to the side for a quick walk around. Look out for the sheep(and their droppings!), about 15 minutes to circle and walk through the middle of the ruined church, it was an interesting find, but not one I think we'd have planned on; my wife urged the stop knowing it was a good photo op for me(thanks Hon!)

I recommend visiting this old church and its graveyard. It's a thin road away from the main road surrounded by green fields and mountains and you can park just outside. The sheep walk freely around the church so it's quite some lefts from them but it's really cool and worth a visit.
