BIt of a climb at the end so be aware this isn't a flat walk, view well worth the effort, unsure about the "Circle Route" as appeared closed at bottom - so we just came back way we went up, needs clarity ?

Lovely walk through forest with outstanding views of Lochs Tummel and Rannoch at the top. Recommend direct route up on forest path and meandering reforest road back. Great way to spend an afternoon if you don’t have the time or energy to tackle Ben Vrackie.

Hard slog up the hill but took a wrong turn coming down and got lost. Poorly signposted. View from the top was so so but the trees blocked really good views.

So this was our first “proper” walk, staying close by at a lodge we decided on a crisp nice morning to take a stroll having looked at the “things to do” in our lodge the walk for Craigower sounded like a plan ! Did we have proper clothes , shoes or kit ? No we didn’t but thought it’s not a long walk and can’t be that hard having a quick google seeing it was 5k round trip.

So off we set wearing jeans and timberlands boots & our jumpers and winter coats ( looking like we were going to tesco ).

All started off well a bit of a struggle but nothing major thinking we were just a tad unfit until we hit the steep part up the hill sweet Jesus it’s steep alright , sweating buckets and a few ( ok maybe more than few ) pit stops to catch our breaths we made it up and eventually over and to the top ! Yay ! Result views at the top were marvellous and worth the struggle up, we sat on the wee bench probably longer than most before heading back down which was a nice effortless walk back down the sense of achievement we both had for getting to the top was amazing and now understand why so many people like to go hill walking. We managed it just short of 2 hours which I think was good for a first attempt !

What did we do when we got back into the car ? Straight to Pitlochry to Mountain Warehouse to check out all the shoes jackets etc needed for walking yes it was hard but we loved it had such a giggle going up to the top for the prize of the views we have been bitten and now have the bug for walking! Watch out people us 2 newbies will back and walking up mountains soon ( properly equipped tho ) lol

We took this walk on the advice of the Tourist Information Office and guided by their leaflet “Explore Pitlochry Path Network” (£1). We wanted a view and some exercise but not a major hike up Ben Vrackie and I’d say this was accomplished.

We parked at Moulin village next to the church and headed up in the direction of the golf course (at the right side of the Inn). Take a left when you reach the junction leading to Ben Vrackie. There are three designated parking spaces further up the road (if everyone parks thoughtfully on the road edge) but it’s not a huge time-saver.

The trail passes through the golf course and when you reach the woods go left (signed for Killiecrankie). There is a steady climb on dirt track along the top edge of the golf course until eventually you head into the woods where the incline gets steeper, and steeper still through the woods themselves following the signpost for Craigower at a forestry track junction. This is where the circuit ultimately returns to if you follow it right around.

We were eyeing up possibilities for Christmas Trees from amongst the felled ones as we climbed giving us an excuse to stop every so often for a breath (with no real intention of stealing one!).

Take a look back every so often and certainly before crossing over at the top of the hill as there are good views, weather permitting, back over your route and well beyond. Near the top there is an unmarked path to the left which has a bench in a clearing with a view too which is worth at least a 5 minute detour. Retrace your steps.

At the top there is a viewpoint marker which points out places of interest on the other side of the hill. However on the day of our visit this was covered with frozen snow so we couldn’t see the details but admired the view nevertheless. It wasn’t a day for lingering so we pressed on downhill, following the loop trail through the woods and eventually on to a forestry service track leading to a radio mast. Nice views here too and then it’s all forestry track winding back down the hill to the aforementioned junction. Although the path was icy it was preferable to walking back the way we’d come which involved a steepish descent down a slushy path traversing the top of the hill.

By the time we returned to Moulin village we’d been away for around 3 hours possibly. Sadly there was no opportunity for a pint in the Inn with it’s tasty mircro brewery as we were driving so a warm cuppa in the car instead!

Challenging enough to feel like you have accomplished something for the day, but short enough to do other things as well. We had the clearest day of 3 weeks in Scotland and could see all the way to Glencoe!

Limited room in the Car Park (beside the Golf course). There is a sign saying 3.5 miles Round trip to the summit of Craigower Hill).

It mustn't take into account all of the climbing and trying to find the path. As the crow flies it may be 3.5 miles.

However it is worth the wait when you finally get to the summit. Views are good (even though it was starting to get dark).

It is nice and peaceful. Worth a try.

Kurze Wanderung mit guter Aussicht. Leider ist der Weg seit einigen Jahren durch Abholzung teilweise nicht sehr ansehnlich und kahl.
