We visited our daughters who study in Birmingham city university and brought our dog with us . We thoroughly enjoyed this long forest walk , especially our Beagle 😊

A super running route linking the city centre with the canals via the park on Rotton Row. Makes a great, challenging nine mile circuit. Used it over many years and seen improvements to the paths.

I love the walkway . I live in Harborne. It’s lovely watching the seasons turn. It is perfectly family friendly and great for walking, jogging or dog walks. That said, I wouldn’t feel 100% safe alone. If I was walking on my own I’d feel better in Warley Woods.

I've done the Harborne Walkway in its entirety many times in the last 6 months and, until recently, I hadn't had significant bad experiences, apart from the occasional dog poo here and there. 99.99% of folks tend to be over 50 and waking their dogs, however...
Last Sunday, I was doing my weekly walk when, just after the tunnel under Hagley road towards Portland road, I had a shocking encounter with a group of feral young scum on bikes. One tried to run me over and missed me by a whisker, another one threw something at me (it could have been a small stone or a piece of wood). He was aiming at my head but managed to hit me on the chest, just below my chin. I felt the hit but had a very thick jacket that absorbed the impact and possibly saved my life. I rang the police and they kindly gave me a nice crime reference number and that was it.
I would not recommend the walkway if you are walking alone and unless you are part of a large group and willing to take risks. Definitely not for families with young kids.
There are no CCTVs, no police patrolling, you're on your own and a potential target.
Here is another piece of Birmingham that used to be nice and lovely and has now gone to the dogs.

The Walkway is a distinctive and beautiful inner city environment which humans share with wildlife. Bats use the tunnels. Bats and their environments are protected and would be disturbed by lighting the tunnels. Considerate use of the Walkway, in common with many environments, requires compromise. Lighting of the tunnels is inappropriate and not possible - given the interests of the bats and the fact that they are a threatened species, threatened by inconsiderate human activity.

When I walked the Walkway on Sunday from Summerfield Park to Harborne it was looking clean, fresh and beautiful. There were plenty of other users enjoying it - cyclists, families with children, walkers, some of them with dogs.

A green corridor through urban Birmingham. Walking, cycling, running, all safely away from the traffic on an all-weather mud-free surface. Joins Harborne to Summerfield Park, Edgbaston Reservoir, and the City Centre via the canal towpath. Harborne to Brindley Place and the City Centre in 20 minutes by bike. Owls, bats, badgers and woodpeckers - a much needed wildlife haven. Currently showcasing a bank of bluebells in bloom. The Friends do a great job keeping the litter at bay and regular users will say hello.

Harborne Walkway is a treasure in the City of Birmingham. Just 15 minutes away by bus from the centre, it's easily accessible and the perfect place for a walk, run or bike ride. it's wheelchair friendly. It connects with the peaceful Edgbaston Reservoir and the Canal via Summerfield Park. At the other end of the walkway is Harborne Village - a great place to eat, shop or have a coffee. You will see a variety of birds including water wagtail, wren and jay. There's also a bird sanctuary alongside part of the walkway. There's a Friends of Harborne Walkway which works with the Council to keep it tidy and safe. Also a Facebook group - Friends of The Harborne Walkway. I live right by this public amenity and use it just about every day. For the most part I feel safe walking there during the day and know many others who feel the same. A real treasure to be enjoyed.

Nice for bike rides but the tunnels are pitch black even in the day, pretty scary and dangerous if there is debris you can't see when cycling
