Must visit place. Go in groups, carry torch and take local guide to go inside the cave. It's very scary inside the cave, as there is no light and for the next 20 mins you have no connection with outside world. Without guides help you cannot simply come out of it. At some point of time, guide asks you to switch off all lights and you feel like why you went there !

Must see if you are physically fit and not afraid of dark and not claustrophobic. To fully understand the place and see all spots inside the cave , best thing you can do is hire a guide. Guide explained to us in detail, took us inside the cave and had torch. Loved the place , saw the places inside the cave, how sadhus user to live and the paintings and other works. You need to wear comfortable foot wear, shoes etc.

This is a unique experience for me, to believe underground rooms beneath the monolithic cave is huge thing. The technical details of the cave is mind blowing. You better take a guide to understand the history of the place. The details about 4windows bathroom etc are intrinsically designed

First of all the arrival at the cave location is fun because the parking lot is surrounded by monkeys. Be careful with your belongings and enjoy the view! There were small shops on the parking lot but ladies toilets were not open, so try to plan before reaching just in case.
Then the views on the hills and the lake are just perfect under the sun. It gives magical colours to the place and you can sit there for 1 or 2 hours easily.
Finally the caves themselves are fascinating. It is better to go with a guide (there should be one at the entrance) because even if you have your own lamp, it is pitch dark inside and you will miss a lot of details by going alone. The guide knew little English and a bit more Hindi so we had the tour in a mix of both languages which was fine as my friend speaks Hindi and I understand basics, but might be a bit more difficult if you understand only English. There are lot of carvings to see inside, a lingam, carved furniture and the last room is either peaceful or scary since there is zero source of light inside.
There is no entrance free it seems, so I am not sure how they maintain the place, but you need to pay a fee to the guide obviously.
Do not miss this place! It is a must see in Karnataka!!

Intriguing caves which is worth a visit. Do certainly take a guide with you to explain the various chambers and help navigate the same. Not suitable for anyone who is claustrophobic!

Caves are nice along with the surroundings. The lake and the background are a good view. Need to use torch while getting into the caves. There are multiple path ways inside the caves and definitely multiple entry and exist points. But use a guide so that you dont get lost. The guides also have torches. If you want a video, lighting is required. The Chandravalli caves should be visited along with the Chitradurga fort.

This is a MUST-SEE place for all of those visiting Chitradurga. It is about a 20 minute to half hour drive from the Chitradurga Fort. Amazing place, with lots of cloak and dagger stuff of the 17th and 18th Century. Apparently used for discussion between the Kings, Religious Heads and also to stash away money. There are a couple of guides available at the caves, who give you interesting stories and charge around 200 to 300 bucks.

The pitch black darkness of the caves is something to die for. Interesting to see how sages lived and colluded with the Kings at that time.

There are also small places of worship, bathing and living quarters. While the height seems a little cramped, the spaces are fairly large, surprisingly, considering the whole thing is underground and is at multiple levels. Apparently, these caves were connected to the Chitradurga fort.

A worthwhile trip, full paisa vasool.
