A real hidden gem. It deserves to be much better known and I think it will be as word of mouth gets going, so get in quick. The guided tour of the bunker was simply fabulous. Being in the actual central control room and hearing the incredible story - with an element of reenactment - of the pivotal events of 15th Sept 1940 was riveting and emotional. The visitor centre and exhibition is excellent too and there's a fine cafe with a peaceful outdoor terrace.

What a fab experience.
We didn’t know what we were expecting exactly... but We got more than We bargained for, for sure.
Dave was our guide... that guy is so knowledgeable and articulate and interested in telling us the whole story about the Battle of Britain.... thank you Dave
We felt so humbled when we left imagining what these brave people were doing down there during WW2 to enable us to be free to live our lives these days.
It was also exciting to be down the bunker and following the footsteps of Churchill and the Royal Family.
It’s a good quality tour down the bunker, which was surprisingly nice and cool and well built considering it’s age... amazing.
The museum is also a good visit and part of the £9 admission fee
They have a lovely cafe, serving a variety of drinks and food.
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PLACE

I first went to the bunker as a child four decades ago when it was still in the hands of the RAF. Visiting today it now has an excellent exhibition and very knowledgeable tour guide. Allow at least two hours including tour which is a bit over an hour, or a bit more time if using the cafe.

This whole experience was absolutely first class. Our guide, Tony, with Mark, was absolutely brilliant. They are so informative, well versed in the workings of the bunker and made it so interesting. The tea in the cafe was perfect and the staff throughout the site are so nice. Definitely a must if you can do it.

What a find! Spontaneous visit whilst staying in Denham. Firstly, this is a stunning exhibition which is so all kept. The level of explanation on captions/labels was great.
We had booked on the tour, which is a must! Andy, the tour guide, spoke with so much knowledge and passion. He was patient with all questions and left many of us feeling moved by his description of September 15th.
Don’t think, just book it!

This is a guided tour. The bunker is basically identical to how it was in 1945. They literally have the same plotting map that was there in that period. Our guide was Andy Stacy. We’ve listened to plenty of guides, but Andy was beyond exceptional. He tells the story of September 15, 1940, when the Brits finally turned the air tide against the Nazis; Churchill was in attendance. How he tells it, though, is a theatrical experience. There was not a dry eye in the room. For anyone who is interested in WWII, this is a must-do.

Superb guide - Andy - who was quite knowledgeable and was willing to answer all the questions peppered at him by the group.
The bunker is as it was on Sep 15 1940 and it was easy to imagine the tension as the Luftwaffe massed over the Channel while the RAF scrambled understrength and fatigued squadrons.
Battle management using all analog technology - a far cry from today's hyperlinked digital world.
A must see for anyone with even a modest awareness of the Battle of Britain.

Absolutely fabulous! Having read reviews that it can be difficult to find, not only did the sat nav take us straight there but the road signage was clear too.
The staff were welcoming and friendly and we had a look around outside at the replica aircraft and memorial while we waited for our tour.
The tour was extremely interesting and our tour guide was knowledgeable and explained everything clearly. His story telling was excellent, explaining who did what and how. It was fabulous to stand where air command was during the Battle of Britain and indeed D-Day.
The exhibition was well laid out and informative with lots of hands on exhibits that children would enjoy.
We didn't visit the cafe but the gift shop was very sensibly priced.

This was just incredible. Not only is there a modern information area explaining the history behind the bunker and highlighting the involvement of the Polish air pilots in the Battle of Britain but more importantly you can access the actual bunker used to command the fighters in the 1940 Battle of Britain. We had an excellent guide who truly knew his history and could explain it clearly. Much is still left in the bunker including the massive illuminated boards that showed the position of the aircraft during the battle. Winston Churchill and there Royal family were regular visitors during wartime. How fortunate we were to visit this amazing part of British history, Definitely to be recommended.

About one hour for the guided tour of the bunker itself but allow another 90 minutes or so for the purpose-built and very informative museum next door.
Is there a lift or escalator my husband cant manage lot of steps

Hi there. While the Visitor Centre with exhibition is fully accessible via lift, the Bunker itself is only accessed via 76 stairs. Sorry to disappoint - it is a Grade I listed building, and we therefore cannot alter the entrance.

I am flying into LHR with a 4 hour layover on the 29th of March. I have always loved the stories of the RAF during this critical juncture of history. Do you know if transportation is available from and back to the airport?

You can get the train into Uxbridge from Heathrow on the tube it is the Piccadilly line.
It is not far from there but a bit tricky to find if no transport so I would get a cab from the station it wont be very expensive. Ring ahead to the bunker and book a visit you will love it very interesting.

You will only need to book in advance if you have 10 or more people in your group. Otherwise, you can just turn up and book on to the next available tour. I hope that helps!

Do you have to plan your visit far in advance as the space seems quite limited downstairs? What is the entrance fee? Thanks!
