I normally don't go to this kind of historical museum but I am glad I did. So many interesting elements of this one. The guide was extremely knowledgable and very friendly. Highly recommend it

Gratuit. Heureusement !

I will be completely honest and say that we did not set out to visit this museum but so happy we did. We happened to be visiting Annapolis Royal, just walking down main street when a gentleman came out and asked us if we'd like to come in. He gave us a brief history, informing us that this is the oldest surviving Acadian building in Canada, over 300 years old and then let us walk around to explore. The real treasure is when you go upstairs to see the hidden murals believed to be from 1841 that were discovered under the wallpaper. I am not a big fan of museums but this one had a unique way to displaying and telling the history not to mention it is free!

This is the second oldest wooden building in Canada and well worth visiting for its historical and architectural interest.

This house is a must see when in Annapolis Royal. Right on the main street it is one of the oldest wooden houses in the province. Origionally a single house it was added to creating a larger inn. The interior of the building has been preserved and the walls and floor have been cut back so that the visitor can see the construction of this historic house. The docent is very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the history of the house and what you are seeing.

A super historic site, well worth the visit, especially as it's run by a non-profit and has a unique way of displaying and telling history. The guides are wonderful and well versed in local history, patient when asked numerous questions and very engaging. The painted room is a fantastic, intriguing addition....the guides stories and the walls pictures make me want to learn more about this fascinating wee gem. I encourage anyone, while in Annapolis Royal, to take a quick trip back in time into this wee hidden gem. Very well done.

We headed for here today, Monday, but unfortunate it was closed. A real shame, because having read all about the history of the building, I was very keen to see inside it. As a Freemason in England, I was fascinated to see that it had been the venue of the very first Masonic meeting in Canada, back in 1738, some 280 years ago. I felt humbled that I’m a modern part of that ancient international voluntary organisation, still raising money for good causes all these years later. Lovely building, from the outside at least!

Museum is in historic area of Annapolis Royal. The building looks small but it is full of local history. They have uncovered very old frescoes painted on a wall that are in remarkable shape for their age. Good examples of colonial building construction, tools, and life-styles.

The original house was built in 1710. In 1780, a nearby building was moved and added to it to make an inn. Although it fell into disrepair, it has been restored very cleverly that enables the visitor to see the materials and techniques used in construction. The jewel is the painted room which is upstairs. The story behind it is fascinating
