We started on the trail from the Barrie end, the OMRT parking lot on 1 Line S at Ridge Rd W (where it changes from Shanty Bay Rd). The trail itself is generally well maintained, flat and straight, gets a bit boring. However, going in the direction of Barrie, is the more interesting option. The trail ends unfortunately ends 1/2 km from the parking lot but by following the road to the left, one can rejoin the trail either by staying on Shanty Bay Rd or following the shore along some of the side streets. Approx 1.5 km further, a left turn onto Penetang Rd takes one back to the trail where it becomes a continuous route along Kempenfelt Bay, right into the heart of Barrie. This is a pleasant and scenic stretch which passes beaches and parks with benches and rest areas. If one chooses to go right around the Bay as far as Minet's Point, it makes for relaxing 20 km round trip. Along the way, there are plenty of places for eating or refreshments such as the Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery or photo op at the Spirit Catcher, an impressive steel sculpture that moves its wings with the wind.

I walked from the 7th line to the 5th and listened to Cat Stevens while I was walking great music to hear then I headed down the 5th line to the Lakeshore and stoped at the Shelswell Park and headed to the Lake front and took some pictures of the trees and lake

Started from BW Mariposa hotel, paved path from hotel joins rail trail. Left into Orillia and on and on to Coldwater and through to Midland or turn right and head towards Hawkestone and on to Barrie. Good surface, a mix depending on your direction and distance. Ride towards Hawkestone and you can see turtle nests protected with wire screens. Lots of birds, snake, frogs, deer fly...don't forget the spray and the sunscreen. Lovely and peaceful. Great ride for families.
