We had a delightful trip to this small chocolate grove/farm in Dolphin Bay. Dorine gave us a lovely tour through her grove and a detailed description of the process to make chocolate from planting seedlings all the way through. She let us pick a ripe pod, smash it on a rock, taste the raw pulp, raw seeds, and then walked us through the process from beginning to end (including letting us grind, winnow, , and extrude some chocolate she had already dried/roasted!), with tasting at each stage.
Afterwards she let us taste some of her amazing chocolates and sauces. She had some for sale (and some raw unprocessed chocolate) but was not pushy at all, and her prices were quite low. She even taught me how to make her delicious caramel-chocolate sauce at home!
It was a great experience, and one that will stick with us (I've already made the sauce at home once)!

Everything here is wonderful. The chocolate tour is so interesting, and of course you can enjoy the real taste of chocolate. The place is gorgeous and you can spot several animals like sloths, parrots, toucans, spiders...

We visited Dorien on her farm to do a chocolate tour. Very interactive, tactile & informative… our girls really enjoyed it! We learned a lot about not only the tree to chocolate process but also about the many different species that grow there wildly & free! Highly recommended!

We enjoyed our time at Finca Montezuma so very much. Dorien has created a really cute farmstead there in the Bocas del Toro archipelago. We loved the education we received on the growing, harvesting and processing of the cacao with the first hand knowledge that her chocolatier father has brought to the islands from Belgium. But honestly, that was only a part of our experience. Dorien was generous with her knowledge of so many things there at the finca. Her time spent in Bocas has clearly produced a wealth of knowledge and she was eager to share lots of interesting facts about the all the other plants that she’s nurturing on her farm. She’s a collector of native species! There was a true charm in seeing her young family in their jungle home environment. Imagine life as a child where you can freely enjoy playing in a natural jungle setting or striping down to your skivvies to jump off the dock for an impromptu swim. We felt that we were quite literally invited into her home to share in her day to day life and I marveled at what this young woman was accomplishing there. This was one of the most delightful eco tours we’ve done.
We made a day of this with a trip to Monkey island, a rescue for a variety of specimens of monkeys, a snorkeling stop and a nice lunch at one of the over the water restaurants, all with a private boat that we hired for the entire day. Honestly, the boat ride through the mangroves and the vast archipelago and all that we saw along the way was in itself was an experience not to be missed. (Thanks to Miguel on the boat Windstar!) The trip to the finca was the icing on the cake! This was a spectacular day.

We joined a trip spontaneously as we were kayaking in the bay and someone told us about it. We loved every minutes. You can not only learn about artesanal chocolate production, but also see many sloths and monkeys. Finca is beatiful and what's Very important to us, the owners run their business in the sustainable way, letting the natural forest grow. Higly recommended to come over if you're in the area.

Perfect little getaway to become one with nature. Excellent food, hosting and experience. Looks just as great in reality as on the pictures! We also did the chocolate tour, which I would highly recommend!

We had a lovely 3-day stay at the Overwater Cabin at this cacao farm. The food prepared by Dorien was fabulous and as fresh as she could make it. We had several hikes on their property to locate vanilla pods, and to try cacao right from the pod. We were served delicious hot chocolate as a welcome drink made by Dorien from the pod to the finished product. we had a truly wonderful snorkeling experience with Rogelio who took us to a small mangrove island that had a fantastic reef with corals of bright extraordinary color, and then to another area where there were many sponges and starfish. It was also a great place to relax in the hammocks and listen to the birds, and the sound of fish jumping. Most amazing of all were the bioluminescent fish that appeared under the dock on which our cabin sat.

We've done the 2,5hours Chocolate Tour with the owner Dorien of the Montezuma Farm. The tour started with a walk through their chocolate tree property. Teaching us about the different kinds of cocao fruits, how the look when they riped, still in riping process or eventually overdue (rotten). We've even got the chance to pick them by ourselves using a specific tool and try the beans inside. On the go we've learned how the cacao trees get recultivated and discovered lots of different animals such as sleeping sloths, busy leaf cutting ants and catched a sheep stealing bananas.
After that she explained us all the necassary steps from the fermenting over sun drying til rosting. She even showed us how the winnowing is done and how the nips are grained and turned into liquid chocolate. We've had the chance to ask to many spefic questions that got answered to our fullest satisfaction. The tasting of different products she produces all on her own was incedibly delicious. If you're interested in getting to the bottow of chocolate from production til finshed chocolate, this chocolate tour is a MUST during your visit on Bocas del Toro.
