Church locked
set de 2021 • Amigos
We called in 8 September to find the church was locked. On enquiring at the post office we were told the custodians of the church had died and no one knew who held the key.
We had come to see the stained glass window.
Our advice would be to check before the visit to see if arrangements had changed.

The Bible Burglar!
mai de 2019 • Casais
Me and Hubby visited this Grade 2 listed medieval building on a recent Wednesday morning. We were pleased to find it open to the public (if closed, the key can be obtained from the Post Office on the main road). A church was founded on this site circa 1230 by Llywelyn the Great Prince of Wales (1173-1240). There is a figure of him inside the church. I liked the colourful stained-glass windows and the contrast between the white-washed walls and the dark wood fixtures & fittings.

We last visited here 6 years ago when we were privileged to see a Geneva Breeches Bible printed in 1589 worth £3,000 which was on display in a locked glass case. During late 2013, a professional thief stole this rare bible, leaving a cheap modern bible in its place!

In the graveyard to the left of the entrance of the Church is a memorial dedicated to Evan Evans alias Ieuan Glan Geirionydd (1795-1855). He was a famous poet from the local area. We didn't try and find his grave due to the surrounding overgrown grass.

Historic building.
set de 2018
St Mary's church in Trefriw dates from around 1230 and is steeped in history having been built by Llewelyn Fawr (Prince of Wales) to avoid the long walk to and from the church at Llanrhychwyn (2km away).
The pulpit is dated at around 1633 the font is believed to be earlier. Although the building was rebuilt in the 1500s it is in a remarkably good condition.
The church is presently a part of the Open doors scheme, and access during daylight hours should not be a problem.
If church buildings combined with the history of Wales is your thing St Mary's is a must.

Beautiful, Historic Church!
ago de 2018 • Casais
This ancient (founded c1230, altered later) Church is small but peaceful, tranquil, full of atmosphere and rich with history. Situated in the middle of Trefriw, it still functions as a church too, with (Anglican) Sunday services. Inside, there is an extensive history, in English, on Prince Llywelyn the Great and his wife Joan, daughter of 'Bad' King John of England. Near the altar there is also a most beautiful reproduction of a painting from 1498 of the Virgin Mary at prayer. In all a simple pleasure, but one well worth visiting and supporting.
