The only decent thing about sorake is the wave. There are a few nice people but the vast majority of people here are out for your money. Yes understandably people are poor but be prepared to be hassled to buy and pay for EVERYTHING you can imagine - overpriced souvenirs, overpriced massages, overpriced shrimp… the list goes on. There are various surf schools and camps listed here but they’re all scams, you receive incredibly poor instruction and the instructors will barely take the time with you in the water, giving every excuse to cut the lesson short. Overall the experience is terrible apart from the beautiful wave. It’s a shame that the locals destroy this beautiful place by making it feel like a tourist trap. You will not build any real relationship with a local here. I would never come here again and do not recommend anyone to come here. There are so many better communities to visit that have equally as nice of a wave. Oh yea and the wave is crowded too

This place is like magic, many memories are stored that you can't forget. Unfortunately, it takes quite a long time to reach the island. The distance of Sorake Beach from the center of Teluk Dalam City is about 13.6 kilometers with a travel time of approximately 23 minutes. To get to Sorake Beach, visitors can go through Saonigeho Street, Teluk Dalam Street, and Sorake Street. Travel can be done by car or motorcycle because the road conditions are quite good.
Visitors coming from Medan can take a flight from Kualanamu Airport to Binaka Airport, Nias. The flight will take about 55 minutes. The trip from Binaka Airport to Gunung Sitoli, Nias, can be continued by public transportation with a travel time of approximately four hours. Another transportation option is using a bus for one night from Medan to Sibolga. The trip is then connected by ferry for one night.
Ferries from Sibolga City, North Sumatra, will cover a distance of about 85 miles with a travel time of approximately 12 hours to the Gunung Sitoli Ship Dock. Gunung Sitoli is the only major city on Nias Island. Travel time from Gunung Sitoli to Teluk Dalam City takes four hours by car.

I visit this place just before sunset to take some pictures. I walk through walking path on the beach to find the best angle. It was a very beautiful sunset. I think this was one of the best sunset view in Indonesia.
Actually I'd like to take picture of surfers, but it was too late because it was already too dark.
There were some lodges and restaurant in this beach.

I have been 2months and 3weeks in Pantai Sorake, and I can tell that the vibe that surrounds this beautiful place is terrible. Apart from their good waves, the people are too concerned on seeking profit. No matter how they do it; they will lie, hide things, scam you if necessary.
They all think that just because you are foreigner, you owe them money, presents, or something.
They all play on you, no matter who you are dealing with, no matter how kind and friendly he/she looks like. I fly out of the island deeply disappointed. Despite my long stay in Sorake, I leave without any new friendship. I'm an experienced traveler, and I have to say that is the first time I feel like I do towards a community. I'm used to travel to undeveloped areas. Is not that I am surprised on how people try to make their own difference. I'm disappointed on how they do it. I got scammed 3times, the same happened to every single foreigner that I spoke to.
There are thousands of other very good waves in the WORLD, places where you will be comfortable, and you won't have to deal with all these bad vibes. AVOID TRAVELING TO SORAKE, GO SURF SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Salah satu pantai terbaik yang ada di pulau Nias, Pantai Sorake ini salah satu pantai dengan ombak terbaik dan favorit para atlet surfing dari seluruh penjuru dunia. sangat di rekomendasikan berkunjung kesini bersama keluarga, pasangan dan teman-teman. :)

Berkunjung ke pulau nias tidak lengkap rasanya jika anda tidak ke pantai sorake. Pantai yang menyajikan ombak yang sangat cocok bagi anda penikmat surfing. Selain itu juga anda tidak perlu khawatir untuk penginapan, karena di tepi pantai banyak terdapat penginap dengan harga yang terjangkau.
