This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Thailand. There were only 2 of us on this tour. It involved a long drive from Bangkok (3 hours each way) however it was well worth it. Our guide (Peter) worked very hard making sure we were comfortable and keeping us informed. He also took photos for us (A LOT of photos) at times when we were immersed in the experience so we could enjoy the activities. The trip involved a journey to the Erawan National park. We swam in the opalescent waters beneath a waterfall. Everyone wore life vests as a safety measure. The waters had fish which nibbled at our feet which freaked us out at first, but once we learnt they were harmless the experience was more ticklish than anything else.
We then went for lunch (a buffet of Thai dishes) at a local restaurant. Then it was off to the elephant haven. Without a doubt this was the highlight of the trip for us. We prepared food for the elephants (under instruction). We then fed the elephants allowing the elephants to grab the food out of our hands with their trunks. We then were taken to the river where we washed an elephant (with brushes). The elephant then returned the favour and showered us with water from the river, with her trunk as an act of reciprocity. We were given soap and shampoo to shower afterwards.
We then went to the Death Railroad (built by POWs in WWII). We went first to the railroad by the Buddha cave, and then ended the tour with a visit to the Bridge over the River Kwai.
All aspects of this trip were worthwhile but the standout part was, for us, the elephants.

The highlight of our whole trip! Make lunch for an elephant, feed her then follow her down to the river for a bath. All the workers were so kind and gentle with the animals; you could tell there was a real bond. We had so much fun and they used our phones to take pictures and video for us so we could just enjoy everything.
The drive out and back was about 2.5h each but the van was clean and comfortable. Lunch was a huge spread of delicious Thai staples. The railroad and bridge were all to ourselves. We followed the advice of a previous reviewer and went on a Monday so even the falls were sparsely populated for us to swim and take great pictures. Everything about this excursion gets 5-stars. Once in a lifetime experience!

What an amazing day! Our guide, Ya, and our driver picked us up at our hotel promptly at 6:30. We rode in a comfortable air-conditioned van. We were fortunate that it was just the three of us! (Pro-tip: We went on a Monday, and Ya shared with us that it’s least crowded during the weekdays because people from Bangkok flock to Kanchanaburi Province to hike to the Erawan Falls and raft on the River Khwae (River Kwai) on weekends). It’s a fairly long ride, about 100 miles / 2.5 hours plus about 20 minutes for a brief stop on the way to the infamous Bridge on the River Kwai. Then it’s another hour to Erawan National Park (Erawan = elephant) to hike to the different levels of the waterfalls. The trail is well maintained, but it is a bit of a workout going up and down. Swimming in the falls at level 2 and level 5 was really cool, figuratively and literally. You are required to wear a life jacket to swim in any of the waterfall pools, and you must rent them for 20 Bhat each (this is an out-of pocket extra). Lunch (included) was at a little restaurant featuring traditional Thai foods. The elephant reserve was awesome. We cut and mixed fruit and rice balls, fed the elephants, and bathed them in the River Kwai. The staff provides blue cotton shorts and tops (included) to wear while bathing the elephants. A tip of 200 Bhat (about $5.60) is suggested for each of the elephant handlers. The final stop was the Buddha Cave on the River Kwai near the location of the former POW camp where Australian POWs and local civilians were forced to build the railway bridge along the precarious cliffs. The final journey back to Bangkok took another roughly 3 hours due to evening traffic, and we arrived back at our hotel at promptly 7:00 pm. Ya was such an informative and friendly guide and we had a great time. A tip of 1000 Bhat (approximately $28) per party is a much appreciated, but not required tip for your guide and another 500 Bhat for the driver (our driver was very much surprised and deeply appreciative). Highly recommended excursion!!!

Anusorn was an amazing guide. He anticipated our needs and was highly knowledgeable, answering all of our questions throughout the tour. He took great pictures for us, gave us surprise local snacks, and cracked jokes with his great sense of humor all along the way. We hope to book him again for a tour in the future.

An amazing and life-changing trip. The waterfalls were beautiful with clear, cool water and a nice light hike to get to some of the levels. We only went to level 3 and had a great swim in the pool. Then the elephant haven was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, getting to feed the elephant directly from my hand and then helping to give her a bath. She was a gentle giant and obviously well trained and well cared for. All in all, a great (long) day trip out of Bangkok.

This tour was the best! Our guide was so kind and spoke English well. He does have an accent so it’s a bit hard to understand him at first, but you get used to it! He kept us constantly fed with local snacks and more. Our lunch was SOOOO GOOD!!

The car was extremely comfortable with lots of leg room and massage chairs! It also had plugs so we could charge our phones. They gave us iced cold water multiple times throughout the day.
Also, our driver was pretty good. His driving never made me feel sick .
However, there are some twisty roads going up to kanchanaburi so I highly recommend bringing some medicine.

Erawan waterfalls was gorgeous. Warning- the fish that bite your feet are here . They bite you’re whole body. Doesn’t really hurt, but it was uncomfortable for me (not my friend though).
Also, Monkeys are here too and they will steal your stuff so be careful.

The elephant sanctuary was cool, I don’t know how much of a sanctuary it is. They have trainers who give the elephants treats when they do tricks (like squirt you with water).
There was no riding or anything like that, but they didn’t go into if they actually do any work helping elephants.
It was fun to feed them and bathe them!

We booked a private tour via tripguru. Our guide Tingly picked us up at our hotel and went above and beyond to give us the best experience ever. He is incredibly kind, considerate and knowledgeable. After a safe and comfortable ride to the elephants sanctuary, we got to feed the elephants, make their food, take a mud bath with them and, our personal highlight, got to go into the river with them. This was the best experience ever, adults and kids (age 7 and 16) loved it.
After lunch, we drove to Erawan National Park to see and swim in the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve ever seen.
Then we drove back to Bangkok, where Tingly dropped us off at our hotel. Again, I can’t stress enough how well he provided for us and highly recommend taking a tour with him. And the elephants were such a special and amazing experience that I don’t even have the words to describe it.
