Yes, this place still exists, and yes, it is beautiful! I stayed here with my extended family of 12; 8 adults and 4 children (ten and under). The reason I give it only 4 stars is the place is a bit rustic. That being said, this is the best holiday I’ve ever had. The place is beautifully tended to on a daily basis (except Sundays) by a cleaner, Ines, and a grounds keeper, Dio. Dio speaks English and is a great resource for local information. The 2 casitas are single bedrooms with king beds, walk in closets (that lock) and full ensuite bathrooms. There are good fans over the beds. They have outdoor kitchenettes equipped with 2 burners, a fridge/freezer, coffee maker, blender, water coolers and a sink. The burners ware not very hot and are quite poor if it is windy. We cooked our dinners in the main house. The main house has 2 bedrooms both with a king and a double bed. Each bedroom has a fan over the beds (there are air conditioners mounted on the walls but they don’t work). One bedroom has a full attached bathroom, the other shares its bathroom with the main area. There is a full kitchen with stove/oven, fridge/freezer and full cooking appliances. There is a large sitting area and great open dining area with table large enough for all 12 of us! The top apartment has 2 identical rooms with king beds and overhead fans. They each have walk in closets and full ensuite bathrooms. It has large common area with kitchenette the same as the casitas (two burners, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, blender, water cooler and sink). The apartments get street noise in the early morning and evenings. The grounds are beautiful and large! It is very private. The casitas, house and apartment are well spaced, providing additional privacy for each family. The pool is lovely and clean (thank you Dio). There is ample shade from trees and a large palapa at the pool side. There are many hammocks available for lounging. The 2 things we would comment on for the lodging is that the only place to effectively cook a full meal is in the main house kitchen. If you were to be staying in one of the other units then you would probably eat out more. The other comment would be that there aren’t any lock boxes. The casitas had locking walk-in-closets which is where I stashed our stuff. That being said, we never felt that locking up our stuff was required. We felt very safe the entire time in Troncones. Casa Escodida is located on the beach in the middle of Troncones. There are many nearby vendors and restaurants selling local, fresh food. We were never in need of anything that wasn’t a 5-10 minute walk away. The beach is great for boogie boarding and playing in the waves. There is a rip current so the children were always in life jackets (which we brought from home). Zihuatanejo is about a 30 minute drive away (a $1000 peso taxi). Use pesos for everything if possible. There is a bank machine in Troncones, but it is often out of money, so we brought pesos from Canada and picked up extras on one of our trips to Zihua. Additional amenities: BBQ, washer/dryer (clothes line), small library, exterior shower (for rinsing off before pool), wifi (doesn't quite reach beach front Casita) Overall this place was beautiful and peaceful. I have done many tropical holidays, backpacking and resorting and I have never felt so at peace and rested than I did here. I would highly recommend staying here.…
