We are interested in the Native American history and this stop has been on our bucket list for some time. Don't let the 3 mile round trip walk scare you as we are not in the best of shape and it was very doable plus there are several benches along the way to sit and take in the views. I believe that handicapped transportation is allowed but I suggest that you check that. The pictures do not do the views justice and yes that is snow along the path.
They are very protective of any Native American rituals that may happened to be going on and they ask everyone to be respectful while they are happening.

This was a very beautiful, spiritual, and relaxing spot. It's about a 3 mile hike round trip so it adds to it. Wear comfortable shoes because although it's maintained it's uneven.

National historic landmark. Large stone structure laid upon a bedrock of limestone. It is a place of sacred ceremony for Native American Indians. To get there you need to walk for about 1.5 mile from the parking lot through an incredibly beautiful landscape. The altitude is approximately 10,000 feet above sea level. Good walking shoes, sunscreen and water are recommended.

The hiking itself is easy. 30min from the parking. The scenery is amazing.
The medicine wheel is difficult to describe. It is a sacred places for the natives and it has to be respect for what it represents.

We were nervous after reading about problems with altitude especially as my friend has both walking and lung issues. But slowly and steadily we climbed to the spectacular medicine wheel in under 40 minutes. We were gifted with clear skies & having the site completely to ourselves from 5-6 pm. with the sun high n the sky, we had plenty of time to return to the car park. This is a sacred place to the Native people and we are lucky to be able to visit.

Exactly, I'm not sure but about end of May till mid October. Forget winter as the circle will be under many feet of snow. Read a little about Plains Medicine Wheels before your go. This is a holy place. You can call the forest service Buffalo Wyoming to get exact answers.
How far is it from Cody and when is it open to visit?
