It was not a happy visit bushwalking site. when first hour of bushwalking toward the *starlights trail* turned no better than other local bushwalking options s.a. Hornsby bluegum trail, we came back withou having much of finding good views.
The road to get there is unpaved for about 10 minutes, some part were stiff down hill and could be muddy (even luckily it has been dry for days), very narrow, looking very hard to pass the opposite traffice if met on the way.
Rather we visited the Burragorang lookout on the way back was a better place to stop by to take some family photos, direct accessible from the parking lots.

a lot of the activities here are based around hiking, as the terrain is rough and beautiful. however its recommended you have an intermediate level of knowledge and skill around bushwalking

Not far from Canberra nor Sydney, the Nattai National Park is accessible from different townships. We accessed it via Hilltop off the Hume Hwy. We walked down to the Nattai River via the Slot Way. We then went along the river to Russells Needle which gives some pretty nice views and a vertical drop. While many people do the Starlights Trail down to the Nattai and back up the Slot way, you need a good map as the track markings can be faint. Not a straightforward walk, but not too difficult eithe.

I go for a ride out there often on my motorbike, the drive/ride out there is nice, no traffic.
The views are really nice, and it is so peaceful, it also has some BBQs.

We drove to Nattai National Park on New Years Day. There were very
few people there so we had the amazing views to ourselves..It is a 30minute drive from Picton, and well worth it.
There is very good signage around to give you the history of the park, and the people who sacrificed their lives getting coal out of the Valley.
There is a section to have a picnic, and also toilets.
The whole area is just beautiful and well worth the visit.

Really great lookout. Very nice spot. If a nice day you can sit down and have a picnic or BBQ. When we were there it was really cold and extremely windy so didn't stay long

Its a 20 minute drive from Picton!! Head out through Oakdale and the Burragorang road ENDS at the Nattai National park which is part of Warragamba catchment area . Bushwalking is not permitted and there are Ranger cameras in the trees !
The Lookout area is superb and usually very quiet bushland setting with awesome views over the water which feeds the Warragamba Dam. There is a memorial and reference to the history of coal mines in the area.
Picnic areas are well maintained with toilets and BBQ"S are free(push the button and they automatically light up for a few minutes.) They are usually clean. This view looks towards Katoomba and part of the blue mountain range. Well worth a visit. When in the area visit Wollondilly Heritage centre in the Oaks and the Warragamba Dam wall as well . That will be a great day out.
