First off, Jesse has no verified connection to this bank robbery. However, it is still significant as the first daylight robbery of a bank in US history. It has merit, but it is misleading.
There is a minimal fee to enter the museum and "tour" part of the attraction. The docent gave a jammed-packed synopsis of the events of the day the robbery took place. Everything in the bank portion is replica except the vault in which the tellers were placed in during the robbery. The small museum has some artifacts (no pictures allowed in this area). Overall it was worth the $6, but don't believe the name is appropriate.

We stopped in Liberty for some antique shopping and decided to check out the museum. It was a great museum. It's hard to think of Missouri as part of the wild west, but here you got the sense of a bank on the frontier during westward expansion.

Felt duped after going here. If you want to see what an old bank looked like in the mid 1800's you will like this place. If you want to visit a place the Jesse James robbed - this is not it.
During the presentation you learn that there is ZERO direct evidence that Jesse James actually robbed this place. In fact - there is more evidence that he did not than he did.
Did some research after the tour. According to Wikipedia "Jesse was at the time still bedridden with his wound, and therefore could not have participated. No evidence has been found that connects either brother to the crime, nor conclusively rules them out"
It also goes on to say this robbery was "retroactively" credited to the James Gang after he got famous.
Using the same criteria and the Jesse James Bank - Jesse, Elvis and Abe Lincoln have all been at my house because "No evidence has been found that connects them to my house, nor conclusively rules them out"
Clearly a money grab for the city of the the James name.

This is worth the admission price. Cheaper for seniors and military. Walk back in time when Jesse James and his outlaw band robbed the first bank in US history. Find out what actually happened and the timeline of the events that took place in Feb.

In checking the AAA Guide, we saw this while staying in Kansas City. Took the 30 minute drive and it was a surprising experience. Two room bank, the tour was interesting and sine it's not busy, the tour guide spent all the time needed and was very helpful.

Visited this museum on the way back from a Kansas City trip with my husband and 19 year old nephew. My nephew noticed the signs for it on the way down and made sure we stopped coming home. I’m glad we did. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We enjoyed seeing what a bank/vault would have looked like back then. (I worked in a bank myself for a while.) It was also interesting to read the various newspaper articles/advertisements/notices on display - they really made you feel like you were back in that period. The other room has some photos/memorabilia of the gang members and some documentation to look through including a handwritten account of the robbery.

This is not the site of the first bank robbery in the USA. It was the first daylight, peacetime bank robbery. Previously banks had been robbed at night or as acts of war. Our guide was knowledgeable and helpful. While we were looking at the displays, she selected some of their brochures of other things to see in this part of MO. She helped us with planning the rest of our time. We took her advice and also visited the nearby James farm where Jesse and Frank grew up. We learned more of the James gang story there and of their parents and descendents. Both are small places, but highly interesting.

I learned something new today, this was the first bank ever robbed in the US. The tour was more than Jesse James (Gang), and so worth the visit. If you like history, this tour is a must.

The woman who does the tours struggles with the information and can't remember what she has said or not said. There isn't much to tell so she drags it on trying to give you your money's worth. It isn't worth it to see a vault!

Visit the museum and the farm. Both tours are worth your time. This is a small area and doesn't take a lot of your time. The presentation tells you about the history of Liberty and of the James / Younger gang.

Hi,
Regular admission is $6.50 but we are seniors so we got in for $6. There's a link to their web site on the Trip Advisor listing. It's on the right side beneath the photos and the map. it has all the information on fees and hours.
Our tour guide was Michelle. She really knows her stuff and really brings the history to life.
Best,
Don
