Waves were calming.
Water warm

Tanning and swimming are the things to think about.
Sand nice and silky warm.
Sun was warming but with a cool air breeze in February.

Lovely, peaceful beach within walking distance to the harbor. Great for snorkeling and exploring tide pools. Clean bathroom and outside beach showers. Plenty of shade and picnic tables. Perfect afternoon after a visit to the Cat Sanctuary.

We stayed two nights on Lanai and made two separate trips to this beach as it had that much of an impact on us. The view is beautiful and there are picnic tables under the trees. There are a number of families that come down on weekends and enjoy the beach park. Be careful with the surf as there are red flag days and there are strong waves that can pull you very hard, so be aware. You can also enjoy the lava pools nearby.

Beautiful beach that doesn't get crowded even on Sundays. Often you can see a pod of 30-50 dolphins fishing in the bay.

We visited Hulopo’e Beach for a day and were thoroughly impressed! Not only does it have beautiful clean soft sand, but it is a calm protected bay which allows for excellent snorkeling. In fact it was the best snorkeling we had on our entire trip to 3 different islands in Hawaii (Oahu, Maui, Lanai). It was so fun, we will definitely be back!

One of the more gorgeous natural paradise themed beaches I have been to. Breathtaking. Beautiful, clear warm water.

We took the Expeditions Ferry over to Lanai and walked over to this beach from the ferry dock. It is a short walk (maybe 1/2 mile at the most). It was uncrowded and had pretty scenery. There are picnic tables right by the ocean where we ate lunch. Snorkeling was good!

Easy day trip from Lahaina, Maui. We took the 9:45am ferry, arrived at 10:30, took the shuttle to Lanai City, grabbed lunch at Blue Ginger, shuttle back to beach, then back to Lahaina at 2:30. The beach is excellent! Next time, we would come just to the beach and bring chairs and a cooler with food and drinks.
If you’re just going to the beach, you can walk 10 minutes from the ferry drop off. If you do want to explore, the shuttle will meet you, but you have to text in advance with your name(s). $10 each way on any paved road. Al was our driver with Rabaca’s Shuttle Lanai. He grew up on the island and had interesting local stories.

Outstanding snorkeling on the left (southeast) side of the beach, following the rocks. Canyon-like reefs hide scores of fish in all directions. The best time to snorkel this beach is in the morning, during low surf. Once the wind picks up, it is less enjoyable because the water becomes cloudy with sand and you get jostled around by the waves.

This beach is deservedly known as one of the nicest beaches in the state--these ratings, of course, are largely nonsense, because the kind of the beach you want is entirely dependent on the moment, the weather, and the waves. That said, this is truly a lovely crescent shaped beach with some of the lightest color sand I have seen on any island. Nice facilities, plenty of parking, and it being Lanai, not at all crowded, at least when I came. My reservations stem from the murkiness of the water, which may just be a setback in winter--the coral is nice enough but there aren't many fish about. However, the beach is a ten minute walk, at most, from the ferry, which makes it a great place to wait.

Aloha from beautiful Lana’i ~
as a Plantation house owner in the city, it is my opinion that the rule regarding no bikes on the property at Houlopoe Beach Park/ campground is well thought out.
It is only the last year plus that riding bikes became most notable in town as well bikes appearing on the Highway to/from beach.
Before it becomes unmanageable for all imaginable related issues (including safety ) regarding “riding a bike to the beach”
it was nipped in the bud.
Believe me that if this impacts you negatively it wasn’t intended to do so.There are special rules for this private special park that keeps it so special!

One review mentioned bbq grills available at the beach. I'm assuming they're charcoal briquettes type ones.... anyone know if you can buy that on lanai or do we need to bring them from Maui?

There's a market in Lanai City (Richard's Market). (808) 565-3781. You can call them and ask if they have charcoal briquettes. The bigger issue is how you're going to get to Lanai City to buy them.

How do you get camping permits?
Lauren D

I'm not allowed to post website links (Thanks a ton, Tripadvisor), so all I can tell you is to type this into your Google search box: "hulopoe beach camping permit". The first result you get is the website called lanai96763 and the Information page tells you how to request a camping permit.

Aloha All, could you please let us know how easy it is to get to Holopoe Beach from the ferry terminal. Looking to get Ferry from Lahaina to Lanai and have a lazy day on the beach

Super easy! Get off the ferry, look to your left and you will see a little sign that points to the right and says "Beach". Follow that sign and when the road forks, keep to the left. That will take you to Hulopoe Beach Park. It is not a long walk.

Are there beach chair rentals available?
Mark S
Corrales, NM3.637 contribuições
If you are staying at the hotel there, there are beach chairs. At the public beach area, there are not. If you rent a Jeep while on the island, some of the rental places will rent all sorts of stuff for the day, including chairs, snorkel gear, etc. We rented our Jeep from Adventure Lana'i and Mikee rents all the other stuff you might want.
