Being taught to cook a 3 course meal by Michel Roux Jnr is such a treat and is so fantastically executed. I believe they may have stopped offering courses if so that is so sad as it was a great experience, and Michel Roux is a total gentleman .

This is the third course I’ve been on now, courtesy of my lovely husband finding a gift idea that works! It’s such a great day out and I fully recommend one! We started with coffee and delicious pastries then into the kitchen to start a starter dough. Then using some of their starter dough we fashioned bread, using bicarbonate we made soda bread and after lunch (which was delicious- with wine) we did beautiful little cream and caramel filled desserts! I went home on the train laden with delicious goodies and full of enthusiasm. Highly recommend a course here!

been to a few cooking classes, this tops it.
Chris was brilliant, full of info and very patient.
Amy and the teams enthusiasm genuine , and the wine pairings spot on ( thanks Amy)
Highly recommend!

What a fantastic and perfect way to spent a day being instructed by one of Britains top Chefs who also happens to be a very nice and decent person to boot. I cannot recommend this course too highly, I will do it again just perfect.

My brother and sister-in-law gave me this for a special birthday. It is without doubt one of the best days of my life. Chef Michel was absolutely generous with his time and knowledge. It was great to watch him in action. I managed to get lots of photos of him in action. Michel sat with the 11 participants as we ate the meals we prepared, after watching him demo the dishes. For the first time in my life, I prepared prawns - shelling them, taking out the intestines, etc. I also cooked and ate venison for the first time ever. And it was yummy. The chocolate fondant and pears in red wine dish was truly truly scrumptious. I came away inspired to take up cooking more seriously. I have ordered my new knives and saucepans (lol). The venue is a delight - light and bright. The other participants were warm and wonderful to spend the day with. The team at Cactus Kitchens were very welcoming. The wine flowed - a different wine with each course. All in all, a truly magical day. I am already planning a repeat visit in the New Year.

My family gave this experience to me for a “special” birthday - it proved to be one of the most enjoyable and memorable presents I have ever received! My daughter and I spent a fantastic afternoon being taught patisserie techniques with Bridget Colvin. She is a wonderful, enthusiastic and down to earth teacher who is full of encouragement and tips! We learned how to make pate sucre, creme patisserie, fruit coulis, meringues and SO much more (all of which we made into tarts which we took home)! We absolutely loved our time with Bridget and her team and cannot wait to go back for the breadmaking day. This experience is one I will never forget and I am having lots of fun practicing my newly learned skills! Thank you Bridget and everyone who helped us on the day.

Yesterday, I spent a wonderful day at Cactus Kitchens in the company of nine other “nervous” participants for a day of Cooking the Roux Way. We needn’t have worried, very relaxed atmosphere and friendly.

WOW what a fabulous day. Firstly, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, putting us all at ease from the coffee and pastries in the morning and throughout the whole day. Rachel, our chef, was just brilliant, explained and demonstrated everything very clearly, answering any questions asked. We were then sent off to our own ‘kitchens’ with all the ingredients and equipment laid out needed to make our dish. Rachel, Brigitte and Emma were then calmly walking around helping and encouraging, with great patience!

Once each course is finished it’s back downstairs to sit together and eat your dish with great pride and there’s wine for each course too!

Thank you also to Hannah, Katie, Rosie and all the staff at Cactus Kitchens. An amazing day, thank you so much, brilliant!

A whole day of cooking? Yes please! This cooking course with Steve Groves at Cactus Kitchens was one of the best birthday presents I could have been given. We cooked three courses and ate them accompanied but some great wines. The dishes were challenging but we'll within the abilities of the home cook and would not be out of place on a reseraunt menu. Definitely something to cook for guests. Everyone was so helpful and encouraging. And we learned new techniques to use at home. The school is conveniently located and appointed to an professional standard. The ingredients were. first class. Steve us an excellent teacher an a great conversationalist. I would definitely recommend Cactus Kitchens to anyone who likes to cook.

I thoroughly recommend this day. I was nervous but soon felt at ease as the recipes and instructions were clear and easy to follow. I previously felt uncomfortable about this kind of day, but I'm buzzing from my strawberry soufflé and my confidence in cooking has been reinforced, so that I want to do more again! Well done Toby and Milly for helping, but not patronising, throughout the day. Thank you for a memorable experience!

My husband booked this for me as a treat, I've always enjoyed cooking, but I am in no way a professional chef! Just a home cook, so I was nervous to begin with, however I need not have worried.

Cactus Kitchens are in a house in Clapham, and it's where Saturday Kitchen is filmed too. The welcome on arrival was so friendly it instantly put me at ease, we were shown upstairs to the kitchen, there were 11 of us in all on this course, and we were welcomed by Michel Roux Jr, he was so friendly and welcoming, it felt surreal to begin with, almost had to pinch myself!

Michel then demonstrated the desert Creme Caramel, we were then each assigned to a station and it was our turn to create the Creme Caramel, we each made 2. There were also 2 assistants helping out, and Michel was also walking around and available to help.

We were then shown downstairs to a dining room and were served soup and bread, which was lovely. Along with a glass of Champagne. Michel stayed with us and had some soup too, and conversation started flowing freely.

After we had eaten, we went back upstairs. Chef Michel then demonstrated the stater, Croque Monsieur with Smoked Duck and Asparagus, and then it was our turn to make the dish and put our own stamp on it. Then it was back downstairs to eat it along with more wine! Again Michel stayed with us the whole time, answering questions and chatting with us.

Back upstairs to see the main being demonstrated, Guinea Fowl with Truffle Jus and roasted Cauliflower Purée, we ten made this dish too and ate downstairs with more wine. Then Michel made Palmiers to accompany the Creme Caramels we had made earlier, and it was desert time with a desert wine.

Chef Michel was on hand all day, he was lovely and very welcoming, the assistant chefs were also lovely, and the sommelier was very knowledgable.

Then Michel was happy to sign cook books and we had a group photo.

This was a fantastic day, and one I will remember for a longtime. Will definitely return.
