Heaven on earth - the gardens and wildlife are amazing. BUT the bat excrement is disgusting (I assume it's the bats). Today it had been raining. We had to carefully step through the slimy muck trying not to slip. It was everywhere. Little kiddies walking through it, prams, wheel chairs, the tables and chairs were covered in it. Our shoes, table cloth and towels are ruined, then taking it back into our cars and homes - yuck! I've written to the council to complain but I know bats are protected. The poor neighbours - disgusting health hazard! We had a lovely time otherwise. Maybe it's not as dangerous on a dry day.

A beautiful, restful garden with plenty of leafy and winding paths. can be a bit steep in parts but well worth a visit for the ducks alone.

Went expecting a spread out, flat and paved park with bordered gardens. Instead found an oasis of rock steps, bridges over flowing water with surprises around every corner.
Couldn't stop photographing. Every shot was beautiful!
Such a delightful morning - topped off with a delicious lunch in the teahouse. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

I love coming to the Camellia Gardens especially this time of year. Yes the bats are a issue but that is nature. The flowers at the moment are beautiful. The Teahouse has limited space due to covid so make sure you book, The food is always fresh and tasty.

I've been coming to this park for a decade, but I'm sorry to say that in the last couple of years it's become a haven for bats. They hang in trees above the pathways, and their disgusting droppings fall on the unwary. The smell is also foul. They are slowly killing the trees they are in. You spend half your time looking out for bats above you. Their crap is all over the seats and walkways.
Unfortunately they are a protected species, and given preference over humans.
Also, if you go in the warmer months, make sure you have insect repellent, as the Mosquitoes are abundant.
My final gripe is the cafe. They charge $7 for a medium size milkshake, which tastes just average. Add another 10% on public hols.
You can buy 3 litres of milk and a bottle of choc topping for $7 !!.
On the plus side, there is good parking, BBQ facilities, toilets, playgrounds, beautiful gardens, and plenty of wildlife.
You can buy birdfood at the cafe for $1 per bag.
Shame about the bats.

Lovley walk around the beautiful gardens. We fed the friendly birds with seeds from the cafe. Wonderful menu and fantastic Devonshire tea. A really imaginative menu and lots of great choices. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free etc. Lovely to have a real cup of tea with lovely china cups and saucers. The staff are very cheery and helpful! Love to go back there soon.

This provided beauty and peace for trip with a dear friend (aged 96) who managed short walks and we were all exhilarated by the gardens. The tea house complemented the gardens and provided caring service and delicious food choices.

A compact garden that packs plenty of "WOW" factor. Fantastic display of camelias primarily, that also boasts narrow meandering tracks through a terraced ferns and palms, azaleas, orchids etc
At the rear entry, where I recommend you park your car, to the left, is a wonder herb garden, and running stream......quite magical.
Near the front entry, there is a large circular rose garden....I took a picnic lunch and sat here, at one of the few tables supplied. The local residents, ducks, swans and lizards are quite tame but do not feed them.....
There are a number of sheltered gazebos for relaxing.....bring a pillow and a book if you like.
This garden is a great place just to chill out with friends, or you partner on a sunny day in Sydney.

What beautiful gardens to walk through. The place has bats and ducks and little waterfalls, it feels quite magical. I was there for brunch and the food was lovely and the staff were very warm and friendly. A great spot for either a table for two or a group.

How to get to the camellia garden from Sutherland train station?
VisitSutherlandShire
Sydney, Austrália60 contribuições
Hello Jennifer,
You are actually better to get the train to Caringbah Train Station, its approx. 20 - 25 minute walk from the there. From the train station you need to head south down the Kingsway then turn right on to President Ave. Follow President Ave and the Camellia Gardens are on the left hand side of the road.
Enjoy!
